Bruce Coleman is the “Perfect Spartan” as stated by The Grand Rapids Press on April 3, 2010 and admired by Spartans all over. He was a MSU classmate of Spartan Football legend Hank Bullough in 1956.
In high school Bruce was a member of the basketball cross country and track teams. He served as co-captain of his track team during his senior year. He became a Spartan in 1953 and participated on the track team. However, he was unable to pursue track due to the death of his father, he needed to care for his mother on the weekend.
Coach Burt Smith (later Athletic Director) reached out to Bruce to work in the Intramural Office. Bruce has been a volunteer at MSU and MSU Athletics ever since.
Bruce has been recognized by several organizations including the United Way, President’s Council for Fitness by Governor Milliken. He volunteered to work with our Event’s Staff to assist our persons with disabilities at Spartan Stadium during home football games. He started the MSU banner in the handicap area at Spartan Stadium. Bruce and his wife of more than 50 years never missed a Football Game (rain, snow or shine).
Bruce earned his B.S. Degree from the College of Education in 1956; and his MA in Education in 1968.
