Where are they now? Henderson/White
Using his affiliation with MSU both on and off of the football field has lead former letter winner Ashton Henderson to still be of service to student-athletes today. Ashton was born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida, where he kept a close knit relationship with his family and strived for excellence in school.
In 2006, Ashton decided that he would spend his next four years at Michigan State over offers from both the University of Mississippi and UCLA. He recounts his great experiences during his recruiting visit as his reason for choosing MSU over other Division 1 offers. “It was certainly a family atmosphere with great people” he says. Ashton’s most memorable moment as a college football player came very early in his career. In 2006, during a game against the Northwestern Wildcats, MSU overcame a 38-3 deficit and won the game with a score of 41-38. Ashton blocked a punt and returned it 33 yards to help fuel their comeback. Unfortunately, Ashton’s football career came to an end due to a severe knee injury. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Advertising and a master’s in Public Relations.
Today Ashton serves as a Senior Academic Advisor/ Student Development Coordinator at Florida State University. He also started a business with former Spartan football player and Varsity ‘S’ board member, Travis Key. Beyond the Gridiron, LLC is a company that provides motivational talks and workshops with student-athletes hoping to play sports at the collegiate level. “Work hard, keep your mouth shut, and good things will happen.” MSU Alum Blair White has used this quote by George Perles all throughout his career as a Spartan receiver, down to securing his spot on the Indianapolis Colts, and now to finish up dental school at University of Detroit-Mercy.
Like many, Blair comes from a family of Spartans, so it was almost a no-brainer for him to start his career here. He graduated with a Human Biology degree with the intention of heading to dental school, but with a successful football season, Blair decided to pursue the opportunity of professional football. In 2010, he was signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent. Blair started out on the practice squad for the first few weeks, but after an injury to wide receiver Pierre Garcon, he was promoted to the active roster. Blair scored his first NFL touchdown during his first game on a pass from the Colts’ former quarterback Peyton Manning against Peyton’s current team, the Denver Broncos. In 2011, Blair played in 7 games but due to injuries, his NFL career was cut short.
This upcoming May, Blair will be receiving his Dental degree and going further into his academic career to pursue a Degree in the specialty of Orthodontics at the University of Louisville. Using the platform he created from MSU and the NFL, Blair intends to open his own Orthodontics office. If you’d like to contact Blair, you can find his information below.
