 Caroline Powers - Golf

From MSU’s golf team to the LPGA Symetra Tour, Caroline Powers has made major accomplishments since her graduation in 2013. Coming from a family of golfers, her connection to the sport started at the early age of 3 years old. Caroline decided that she wanted to attend MSU at just 5 years old after being inspired by her older cousin Emily who was also on the golf team. She explained that a combination of great coaches and teammates made her feel like MSU was home during her official visit in ’09.

One may remember Caroline for being one of the two women athletes in MSU’s history to earn the Alderton Award three years in a row. While studying Elementary Education, she managed to break records, win countless awards, and help her team win two Big Ten Championships.

Caroline qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open Championships in both 2013 and 2014 and has been playing professional golf for two years now. Today, you will find Caroline participating in Symetra Tour events, which is an official developmental golf tour for the LPGA. Summer Strickler- Swimming

Determined to make an impact on MSU’s swim team, Summer Strickler became a Spartan in year 2010. Her brother Gabe also swam for MSU a few years earlier which allowed her to get accustomed to the coaches and program pretty early. Following in her three older brother’s footsteps, Summer began swimming when she was only 2 years old. “I didn't love it at first because I really wasn't any good” she explains, but as she got older her skills improved and she began competing.

Her most memorable MSU moment was in her senior year during the Big Ten Championships. Summer’s entire family flew to Minnesota where they watched her break the 100-yard freestyle varsity record and achieve an NCAA Consideration Qualifying Time.

In 2014, Summer earned a degree in Marketing with a specialization in Information Technology. “As an MSU student-athlete I developed the will to be better. I know how to set goals for myself and I know what I need to do to achieve them” she says.

Summer now works as an Assistant Marketing Coordinator at contracting firm Three Rivers Corporation. If you’d like to contact Summer, her email is posted below as well as the website for Three Rivers Corporation.
